Jerry Falk, a young comedy writer in New York, is in an increasingly chaotic relationship with the neurotic Amanda (Christina Ricci) and her intrusive mother. As his love life falls apart, he finds comfort in his friendship with his eccentric mentor David Dobel, a teacher with bizarre advice. Between romantic crises and frustrated ambitions, Jerry tries to figure out if it’s really possible to achieve anything else in life.
