Fay Grim is the most surprising and disorienting installment in a trilogy directed by Hal Hartley over the course of 17 years. Seven years after the events of the first film, Fay (Parker Posey) is contacted by a CIA agent who convinces her to track down Henry’s confessional notebooks, plunging her into a whirlwind of international espionage that takes her from Paris to Berlin to Istanbul. The film is shot almost entirely with tilted shots, visually emphasizing the sense of a world completely off-kilter.
