The film Fuori is based on the autobiographical novel by Italian writer Goliarda Sapienza, L’università di Rebibbia (The University of Rebibbia), which recounts her experience in prison. Arrested in Rome in 1980 for stealing jewelry, the writer is imprisoned in Rebibbia, where she forms close bonds with other inmates, including Roberta and Barbara. Once released, her relationship with Roberta becomes increasingly deep, leading Goliarda to a new discovery of herself and her own humanity.
