Hakujitsumu (AKA Day-Dream) is one of the first pink films, Japanese erotic films made for cinemas that became a cultural phenomenon in the 1960s. Inspired by a story by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, it follows an artist and a young woman who meet in a dentist’s waiting room. While under anesthesia, the man is overwhelmed by a series of increasingly extreme and disturbing visions, all centered on the same girl. When he wakes up, a detail on the woman’s body raises doubts that those images were not just a figment of his imagination.
At the 59th minute, Akemi Nara opens her jacket in the film’s only color scene and shows her breasts covered in blood. A man hugs her from behind. She licks her lips and then turns to kiss him. A long shot allows us to see the actress’s buttocks, still hugging the man. At the seventy-fourth minute, we admire Akemi Nara naked while having sex with a man inside a shopping mall. A guard hears moans of pleasure, but when he points his flashlight at them, the man is gone and the woman has turned into a kind of mannequin. In the next scene, the actress wakes up naked in a bed, then gets up and walks to an escalator. She is still in the shopping mall. She runs desperately to a group of mannequins and takes a jacket from one of them.
