The year is 1890. A female doctor from New York (Amber Heard) travels to a remote plantation to treat a troubled child with inexplicable abilities. The start of her treatment sparks a full-blown war between science and religion, pitting her against the local priest, who is convinced that the child is possessed by the devil and responsible for all the village’s misfortunes.
