Maggie Cheung, the famous Hong Kong actress, is invited to Paris to play the role of Irma Vep in a remake of the classic French silent film Les Vampires. Chaos reigns on set: the director is in the midst of a creative and emotional crisis, and the production seems on the verge of collapse. Maggie, a stranger and disoriented in that world, observes the decline of French cinema from the outside, while the boundaries between her and the character she plays begin to blur.
