Carlo, a journalist struggling to write a book, lives in Rome with his wife Silvia (Fanny Ardant), with whom he has an open relationship involving extramarital affairs. He is seeing the young Lù (Giovanna Giuliani), while Silvia is involved with a much younger guy who is politically extremist and prone to violence. The guy gradually enters the couple’s life, affecting their daily balance.
The film opens with a view from above of a beautiful seashore. A naked man sleeps on the rocks, and from a distance, Giovanna Giuliani, totally naked, walks towards him. Immediately afterwards, we see the naked actress swimming, then she comes out of the water and approaches the naked man lying on the rocks and lies down next to him, embracing him. At the eleventh minute, Fanny Ardant has sex with a man in bed. She is lying on her stomach and he takes her from behind. At the 20-minute mark, the two naked actresses are sleeping next to a man, who is also naked. The two women each hold one hand on the man’s penis. They are also sleeping naked at the 34-minute mark, but this time it is only Giovanna and a man. At the 48-minute mark, a cordless phone on the bed rings. Fanny Ardant walks towards the bed totally naked, filmed from behind. She sits on the bed and answers the phone. At the sixty-fourth minute, Giovanna Giuliani is standing on a small wooden boat. She takes off her shirt and bra and dives into the water. At the ninety-first minute, we see Fanny Ardant naked, unfortunately lying on a morgue table.
