Rome, early 1900s: a wealthy psychiatrist looking for a nanny for his son brings the peasant girl Annetta (Maya Sansa) to the city, forcing her to leave her child behind. The woman immediately becomes attached to the couple’s newborn, arousing the jealousy of the wife, while political tensions grow in the background.
