La Bestia y la Espada Mágica (AKA The Beast and the Magic Sword) is a Spanish-Japanese co-production, the tenth chapter in the saga of Waldemar Daninsky, the famous werewolf played by Paul Naschy. Here, the actor (and also director) takes the Daninsky curse back in time to give his saga a more epic twist. A medieval warrior, Irineus Daninsky, kills a Mongol chieftain and provokes the revenge of a witch, who curses his family. Centuries later, Waldemar Daninsky discovers he is a werewolf and sets off for Japan in search of a cure, guided by the sage Kian and a legendary silver sword. But the witch Satomi (Junko Asahina) tries to dominate him, and an epilogue suggests that the curse may continue through a hidden lineage.
