Lady Oscar is a 1979 French-Japanese film based on the manga series of the same name by Riyoko Ikeda. In late 18th-century France, Oscar François de Jarjayes (Catriona MacColl) is raised by her father as a man and trained in the use of weapons, accompanied since childhood by the faithful André Grandier. Having become an officer in Marie Antoinette’s guard, Oscar is torn between the masculine role imposed on her by the court and her own identity, while feelings and political tensions begin to emerge.
