Le violon rouge (AKA The Red Violin) is an international co-production directed by French filmmaker François Girard. A prestigious auction house in Montreal prepares to sell a rare collection of string instruments, the most coveted piece being a mysterious red violin created in the 17th century by luthier Nicolò Bussotti. A New York expert authenticates it, while stories from the past reveal the lives of those who owned the instrument and the unique bond each had with it.
