Madame Bovary, a 2014 film directed by Sophie Barthes, is one of many film adaptations of Gustave Flaubert’s famous novel. Emma Bovary (Mia Wasikowska) marries a provincial doctor on a whim, hoping to leave her father’s pig farm behind. The doctor introduces Emma to high society, but she soon grows bored with her husband and seeks excitement outside of marriage.
