In 1964, young Cathleen Harris (Margaret Qualley) has been living for almost two years in the Convent of the Beloved Rose, where, after her postulancy, she took her first vows as a novice despite a family background devoid of religious education. The convent is led by the strict Mother Superior Marie Saint Clare, who considers herself the voice of God and refuses to allow any questioning of her authority. When the directives of the Second Vatican Council arrive, aimed at modernizing the Church, her refusal to apply them makes Cathleen’s vocational path even more difficult and tormented.
At the third minute, Margaret Qualley shows us her breasts for a few moments as she puts on her nun’s habit after waking up in the morning. At the fifty-first minute, Marshall Chapman enters a canteen totally naked, wearing only stockings and a nun’s veil. The woman walks between the tables while the diners look at her in astonishment. At the ninety-ninth minute, Margaret Qualley and Rebecca Dayan sit facing each other and share a long sapphic kiss, then hug. Eight minutes later, we see Margaret Qualley naked as she takes off her nun’s habit and remains topless and in her panties. The actress bends down to pick up a crucifix from the floor, then walks out of frame.
