Set in a psychiatric asylum in the early 20th century, Ópium: Egy elmebeteg nö naplója (AKA Opium: Diary of a Madwoman) tells the story of the obsessive relationship between an opium-addicted doctor and a patient suffering from graphomania (Kirsti Refseth, credited as Kirsti Stubø). The doctor becomes fascinated by the woman’s diaries, triggering a murky game of power and addiction in which the boundaries between treatment and madness completely dissolve.
At the 12-minute mark, Kirsti Refseth is sitting in a bathroom masturbating with a pencil after drawing a long black line on her thigh. A doctor watches her secretly from behind a door.
