David Summer, a young American professor, moves with his wife (Susan George) to his native English village to work quietly on his mathematical studies. However, his wife’s flirtatious behavior and the hostility of the local guys drag him into a crescendo of increasingly aggressive provocations. When the pressure culminates in an assault on their isolated home, David is forced to use his intellect and coolness to defend himself.
