In the film The Belly of an Architect, American architect Stourley Kracklite arrives in Rome to organize an exhibition dedicated to Étienne-Louis Boullée. As the project progresses amid intrigue and tension with his Italian colleagues, he develops increasingly severe abdominal pain, which he fears is a sign of a terminal illness. His growing obsession with his body and suspicion of marital infidelity lead him to a slow physical and psychological breakdown.
