In 1936, Frankenstein’s lonely creature has Dr. Cornelia Euphronious build him a wife using the body of a dead girl named Ida (Jessie Buckley). The new bride, renamed Penelope, discovers she has a violent past linked to a mafia boss. Together with the monster, she unleashes a series of murders that attract the attention of two detectives. Amid chases, reflections on patriarchy, and a poignant search for love, the couple will finally find their way.
At the 70-minute mark, Jessie Buckley has sex with a man in a cross-cutting sequence, in which we see them in different situations. First he undresses her, then she is on top of him, and finally she is lying topless and he is on top.
