Hsiao-Kang, a Taiwanese director, travels to the Louvre in Paris to shoot a film about the myth of Salome. The film unfolds across metacinematic narrative layers, through long, fixed-camera sequences that explore the public and private lives of the protagonists. The characters’ existential angst and inability to communicate find an outlet, in keeping with Tsai Ming-Liang’s stylistic signature, in art and sex.
At the 30-minute mark, Laetitia Casta leans against a large sphere while singing, and her dress slips down, revealing part of her breast. Immediately afterward, we see her in the woods, where she takes off a bathrobe, remaining totally naked, then lies down on a pile of leaves. At the 115-minute mark, Laetitia Casta, flanked by Alice Roland and Sandrine Borau, who are completely naked, dances toward a guy lying in the foreground. The girls help Laetitia undress, first covering her breasts with their hands and then licking her nipples. In the following scene, Laetitia is left alone with the man and leans over him to kiss him. We can see her beautiful breasts.
