A drifting boat arrives in New York Harbor, revealing a mysterious contagion that causes the dead to walk. A group sets off for the Caribbean, where they discover an island infested with hordes of zombies thirsty for human flesh. Amid claustrophobic atmospheres and memorable sequences, the struggle for survival turns into a nightmare with no escape. The underwater scene in which a zombie fights a shark is famous and remains unique in the history of horror cinema. In Italy, George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead was released under the title Zombi. To capitalize on its success, Fulci’s film was distributed as Zombi 2, even though it had no direct connection with Romero’s work.
