Aria

The film Aria is an ensemble work composed of ten short films directed by different directors, including Jean-Luc Godard, Robert Altman, and Derek Jarman, each inspired by famous opera arias. Each episode mixes cinematic language and opera music, creating visions that range from the grotesque to the poetic, from the surreal to the sensual. The result is a visual and auditory mosaic that celebrates the universal power of opera through the eyes of contemporary authors.
At the twenty-second minute, Marion Peterson and Valérie Allain walk naked into a gym and approach some men who are training with barbells. At the forty-seventh minute, Elizabeth Hurley is standing in her bedroom singing. Behind her, a man begins to undress her. When the actress is totally naked, she turns to him and kisses him. Immediately afterwards, we see the two actors naked, kneeling facing each other. At the sixty-fourth minute, Bridget Fonda, naked, approaches a man and kisses him. Shortly afterwards, the two lie down on the bed and have sex. In the following scene, both are sitting in the bathtub. At the seventy-second minute, Linzi Drew has her body painted and performs a sensual dance. At the seventy-fourth minute, the actress is lying topless on a hospital bed.
