Claudia Presăcan, Lavinia Miloșovici, and Corina Ungureanu were prominent gymnasts in Romania in the 1990s. Presăcan, a specialist on the uneven bars, won world gold in 1999. Miloșovici, known for her versatility, won several Olympic medals between 1992 and 1996. Ungureanu, world team champion in 1997, is remembered for her powerful performances on vault. All three have contributed significantly to the successes of Romanian gymnastics internationally.
In 2002, these three girls were at the center of a controversy for posing nude in a Japanese photo book and performing topless gymnastic exercises in two DVDs released only in Japan. One is Gold Bird, the other is Euro Angels. A reissued version of these DVDs was released in Germany in 2004 under the title 3 Gold Girls. Because the girls in some of the photos and videos were wearing official uniforms, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation banned them from training and judging roles for five years.
