After killing his mother’s lover, young François grows up with an increasingly harsh and violent temper. When he returns from the war, he forces his son Béatrice (Julie Delpy) into a life of oppression and pain. In a crescendo of abuse and violence, Béatrice struggles to free herself from her father’s tyranny, seeking revenge for herself and her brother.
