Soldier Simon, wounded by a bayonet during World War II, meets Marthe (Clotilde Courau), a teacher, on a beach near the hospital where he is being treated. It is love at first sight for both of them, but the brutality of war will eventually divide them.

In the forty-sixth minute, naked Clotilde Courau leans over a guy lying in bed to kiss him. Shortly thereafter he is on top of her. The scene is interrupted as he kisses Clotilde’s body. After ten minutes of scenes at the front, the director returns to the two naked actors in bed. He kisses her body, then she gets out of bed to get a bottle and drink. At the 80th minute Clotilde Courau is lying naked on the bed in a dimly lit room and is stroking the hair of a man who is sleeping with his head resting on her chest.
