In New York, Sophie (Vera Farmiga) desperately wants a son, but her husband Andrew, tormented by infertility and pressure from his Korean Catholic family, attempts suicide. Determined to save him, Sophie proposes to Jihah, an illegal Korean immigrant who resembles her husband, that he father a child with her in exchange for money. But soon the pact becomes complicated by feelings: will she really be able to save her marriage?
