Two employees at a medical warehouse accidentally open an army container that releases a mysterious gas capable of reanimating the dead. The cloud spreads to a nearby cemetery, giving rise to a horde of zombies hungry for human brains. The Return of the Living Dead is obviously not an official sequel to George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, but it directly references its existence within the plot: the characters talk about the film as if it were based on real events.
