Un été brûlant (AKA A Burning Hot Summer) is a French-Italian film that explores the intertwined relationships of two couples. French painter Frederic and his wife Angèle (Monica Bellucci), a famous actress, meet another couple during their vacation in Rome. This encounter puts a strain on their already undermined relationship. Their love story is told to us in a flashback, after the painter is about to take his own life.
In the second minute of the film we can see Monica Bellucci naked, lying on a bed. We watch her ecstatically for about thirty seconds as she looks toward us and says something, but there is no audio, because it is just someone’s memory. In the thirteenth minute Céline Sallette is lying in bed next to a man and talking to him. The actress is wearing a white nightgown, and the light fabric gives us a glimpse of her nipples. In the fifty-fourth minute Monica Bellucci is lying on her stomach under the covers. Next to her is a man with whom she has just had sex. We see the outline of the actress’ breasts coming out of the blanket.
