Four years have passed since the events narrated in the first season of Versailles. Louis XIV has built an opulent palace far from Paris to control the nobility, but his project turns against him. The court is now corrupt: courtiers, driven by ambition and thirst for power, use any means to elevate themselves socially, causing moral degeneration. Blinded by his love for Madame de Montespan (Anna Brewster), Louis ignores the injunctions of the Church: now his enemy is no longer the nobility, but God himself.
