Formula 1 champion Bobby Deerfield lives for racing until a tragic accident prompts him to investigate the safety of his life. At a Swiss clinic he meets Liliana Morelli (Marthe Keller), a young Florentine woman. She asks him to accompany her to Italy, changing the course of his journey.
