Set in 16th-century India, Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love tells the story of Maya (Indira Varma) and Tara (Sarita Choudhury), who grew up together but were separated by class: one a princess, the other her servant. Maya, forced to live in the shadows, uses her beauty and the arts of seduction she learned from the famous book of love. Her desire for revenge leads her to seduce Tara’s husband, triggering a spiral of vengeance and tragedy.
At the 16-minute mark, Indira Varma is lying on a bed, covered by a red sheet. A man pulls back the sheet and we see the actress in a fabulous full-frontal nude. He caresses her entire body with his lips, then kisses her. Finally, she turns over and he kisses her round buttocks. At the seventy-eighth minute, the actress has sex with a man in bed in a very dimly lit scene. A minute later, Sarita Choudhury is lying topless under a sheet. There is a hole in the sheet, through which a man slips his hand to touch the actress’s body. When his hand brushes Sarita’s lips, she sucks his finger. At the ninety-third minute, Sarita Choudhury and Indira Varma star in an intriguing lesbian scene. In some versions of the film, these scenes are censored and much shorter.
