In the 1970s, the cinematic figure of the lone vigilante who avenges wrongs when the law is too soft was very fashionable. In La polizia ringrazia (AKA Execution Squad) there is a whole group of such vigilantes, made up of former police officers. A police inspector tries to stop them, but public opinion is on their side.
