You have probably heard this story before. A young woman’s husband returns from World War I seriously wounded. The man can no longer have sexual relations, and the wife begins an affair with the gardener. Extremely summarized, this is the story of Lady Chatterley, a novel written by D. H. Lawrence in 1928 and retold by film and television countless times. In 1993 the BBC broadcast this four-episode miniseries directed by Ken Russell. Playing the protagonist is the charming Joely Richardson.
In the 22nd minute of the first episode, Joely is sitting at the dressing table wearing a see-through robe over her breasts. She gets up and lies on the bed, then looks at a painting of a naked woman and stands up, strips totally naked, and goes to her husband’s room. Joely Richardson is definitely inviting, but he is forced to reject her. In the second episode, the romance with the gardener begins, and in the 20th minute Joely is lying on a bed as the man lifts her skirt and caresses her thighs. The two have a quickie and she does not undress. We see Joely Richardson naked sixteen minutes later, when she pulls down her dress in front of the mirror and caresses her body. Before the end credits Joely and the gardener have sex in the shed where he lives. She gets on all fours and he takes her doggy style. At the twenty-sixth minute of the third episode we again admire Joely Richardson naked in a long sex sequence with the gardener, in a bed, by candlelight. Seven minutes later the actress is in the gardener’s shed. It is pouring rain outside. She takes off all her clothes and runs in the rain, delighting us with a beautiful full-frontal nude. The man imitates her, and the two chase each other joyfully through the rainy woods. We see them again later in the cabin, still naked. He covers her with freshly picked flowers. Unfortunately, this is the last nude scene in the miniseries. The fourth and final episode brings us to the end of the story without any hot scenes.
