Versailles, July 1789. As the French people rebel against the excesses of the monarchy and food shortages, the court of Louis XVI lives in anxiety about an impending revolt. Queen Marie Antoinette plans her escape, trying to get to safety before the situation degenerates. Among her ladies-in-waiting is Sidonie Laborde (Léa Seydoux), the queen’s trusted reader and confidante, who finds herself caught up in the first dramatic moments of a revolution that will change the destiny of France.
