Pagan Poetry

Directed By: Nick Knight

Nudometer:
Pagan Poetry, a single from Björk‘s 2001 album Vespertine, is accompanied by a video directed by Nick Knight that sparked heated controversy. According to the director, the short film depicts a woman ready to give herself completely to her partner, alternating distorted images alluding to sex with real footage of the singer with her breasts exposed as she pierces her skin with beads and needles. It is an extreme work, suspended between pain, devotion, and sensuality.
In the second minute of the video clip, Björk appears topless, singing at the top of her lungs and showing her breasts with pierced nipples.
