With Son de mar (AKA Sound of the Sea) Bigas Luna tells us a story of love, tears and lots of sex. A man and a woman meet, like each other, love each other, and have a child together. He dies in a shipwreck and she makes a new life with another man. Then, however, it turns out that the first man was not dead.
In the 21st minute Leonor Watling and a man are visiting a cave. They stop and he pulls down her shirt to free her breasts, then licks one nipple and teases the other with a fingertip. Five minutes later, the two enter a hotel room. She removes her panties from under her dress and looks at him mischievously, then sits on the bed with wide legs. He joins her and pulls off her dress to kiss her breasts, then they have sex. Twenty-one minutes later, Leonor Watling straddles a man in bed. Her breasts pop out of her robe as she rides him. Eight minutes later Leonor and a man are lying in bed naked and embracing. They had sex, but we didn’t see them. Four minutes later she lies on the kitchen marble and he masturbates her. After another four minutes the director presents us with a fuck sequence between Leonor Watling and a man. In a minute and a half he summarizes for us their amplexes of a few days. Twenty-four minutes later we watch a full-frontal nude of Leonor Watling, who is lying on a morgue bed next to the naked body of her beloved, in a scene that is anything but macabre.
