Einar and Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander), an artist couple in Copenhagen, experience great love but are unable to have sons. In addition, Einar begins to explore his feminine side, rediscovering himself as “Lili,” a woman trapped in a male body. While Lili faces social rejection and seeks delicate gender reassignment surgery, Gerda must confront the idea of losing the husband she loves forever.
