Set in the late 19th century, the film follows Julius Popper as he claims the Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego on behalf of Queen Elizabeth of Romania in search of gold. Popper is accompanied by a motley group of adventurers of different nationalities, including a prostitute named Armenia (Ornella Muti). The plot unfolds by exploring the ambitions of the colonizers and the unexplored wilderness of the island.
