After the success of Tinto Brass & Co.’s troubled Caligola, several films were released that tried to ride the wave. Among them, one of the most interesting is Caligola: la storia mai raccontata (AKA Caligula: The Untold Story) by director Joe D’Amato. The film faced numerous problems with censorship, being rejected three times and released in Italy in a soft version, devoid of 39 minutes of hard scenes.
