Shandurai (Thandiwe Newton) is a young African woman living in Rome studying medicine and working as a domestic helper for Kinsky, an English composer. The girl has left her husband, imprisoned for political reasons by a dictatorial regime, in her country. When Kinsky confesses his love for her, Shandurai tells him about her situation. Without telling her, the composer begins to secretly sell her assets to get her husband freed. When Shandurai finds out about Kinsky’s sacrifice, she cannot help but feel love for him.
