L’événement (AKA Happening) is an adaptation of Annie Ernaux’s novel of the same name, which traces her experience with abortion when it was still illegal in France in the 1960s. Anne (Anamaria Vartolomei), a bright and dedicated student, sees her life take an unexpected turn when she discovers she is pregnant. Her grades begin to drop, putting her entire future at risk. Faced with this situation, she decides to make a difficult decision: to terminate the pregnancy, despite the risk of going to prison.
