In Toledo, American tourist Lisa (Elke Sommer) gets lost in the narrow streets and is disturbed after seeing a mannequin identical to herself in a junk shop. Shortly afterwards, she has a nervous breakdown and is admitted to the local hospital, where her behavior becomes increasingly unsettling. Tied to her bed during a crisis, she begins to evoke memories that seem to belong to another life, confusing everyone about the real reason for her illness.
In 1972, Mario Bava shot the film Lisa e il diavolo (Lisa and the Devil). Presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973, the film was poorly received by audiences and critics alike. Producer Alfredo Leone decided to withdraw it from the market. In 1975, the film was released in theaters with a different edit and a new title: La casa dell’esorcismo (The House of Exorcism). Several scenes were added by Alfredo Leone and the theme of demonic possession, which was not present in the original film, was included in the plot.
At the 24-minute mark, Sylva Koscina has sex with a man in bed. This sequence was also present in Mario Bava’s original cut, but with the nudity censored. At the 55-minute mark, Carmen Silva is lying under the covers in a hospital bed. In front of her is a priest. The actress removes the covers and is totally naked, then gets out of bed and walks towards the priest, showing us a beautiful full-frontal nude. She tries to seduce him, he tries to resist. At the seventy-first minute, Elke Sommer is sleeping lying on a bed. A man unbuttons her shirt, freeing her breasts, then pulls down her pants.
