The legendary and controversial director JJ Hannaford dies in a car accident shortly before the release of his latest film. In the days leading up to his death, a documentary crew follows him, revealing his conflicts, the enemies he made and the careers he ruined. It all culminates with images of his final work, The Other Side of the Wind.
Oja Kodar is in a public bathroom wearing a completely transparent white dress, wet with water. As she dries herself, she rips it and throws it at a girl who is watching her. Three minutes later the actress is sitting between two men in a car. She opens her dress, showing her breasts to the man on her right, then climbs onto his lap to have sex with him as the car drives through the night. The jealous driver stops and tries to grab her, but she pushes him away and forces him to let her out of the car, in a psychedelic and highly charged scene. In a long sequence at the fifty-fifth minute Oja Kodar wakes up in a barn, climbs out of the window and wanders through an abandoned city. After finding a sleeping man, she wakes him up and they begin a playful escape, pursued by him, until a final confrontation. Meanwhile, a group of people in a theater, including the director and projectionists, watch the scene on a screen. Towards the end of the movie, the actress walks totally naked through a desolate wasteland.
