Ultimo mondo cannibale (AKA Jungle Holocaust) is the first film in a cannibalistic trilogy made by director Ruggero Deodato (the other two are the infamous Cannibal Holocaust and Inferno in diretta).
Although the cannibal movie genre was born with the film Il paese del sesso selvaggio (AKA Man from Deep River), this is the first film that officially inaugurates the genre, with all kinds of slaughter (including real killings of animals that have sparked some moral discussions that have never subsided).
From Il paese del sesso selvaggio inherits the actress Me Me Lai, an intriguing Burmese girl who worked in the cinema until 1984 (her last appearance is in Lars Von Trier’s debut film).
The scenes are, mostly, gory and disturbing. Me Me Lai gives us a few moments of relief, always naked on the screen.
